Who is more successful in business? Honest people vs. liars, bribers, manipulators

Note: If you don’t want to see the real dirty business and keep your ideals clean, skip this chapter.

There is big difference between how people tell they act and how they act in reality. If you wish to increase your lying skill, spend your time with criminals or politicians. Lawyers are good source too. You can learn how to fool people with speaking on the edge of a lie.

„People are so simple and their desire to fulfill their current need is so high, that a person who wants to lie will always find someone who is ready to be lied to.“
„Person who wants to be good and honest at all costs will certainly fail in between people who are not good.“
Niccolo Machiavelli

If a person is good at social skills, lying and manipulation, he can thrive financially, because there are always new people to be manipulated, used and thrown away. There is nothing like reputation ID to see if the person you just met and you negotiate your first deal with is honorable or not. If this type of person misuses you, you find it out and complain, he can throw you away and find the next person to use. It is that easy for them. There are lots of honorable businessmen.

I think most of them are honorable. But even if I would like to think that honor and discipline are prerequisite to wealth, the facts say otherwise. In fact, this is far from the truth. Many companies I know did not have ‘clean’ starts and they took advantage of someone else. It is very common and you should not feel bad if you do the same.

Former employees taking company’s knowledge, customers or database with them when they are leaving and afterwards starting their own business or using it at their next job at your competition is so common, that you have to prepare measures against this even before you hire. But there is not much you can do to prevent this. A lot of companies were started this way, but they will not admit this openly, of course.

If you are not a person of integrity, you can’t build long-lasting trust and trust isbase of all  relationships, but who cares?

Nowadays people change their jobs every few years, so it is sometimes harder to build long-lasting trust and that’s why some people feel more “flexible” with keeping their promises. If your customer is a company, it is not the company but the employee of that company who makes purchases from you. And if the person is not also the owner of that company, he asks himself what’s in it for him, not just what is in for the company he represents.

That’s why salesmen use bribes, gifts etc. to get the purchase person to sign the deal. Good deal for the company and good deal for the representative of that company are two different things.

I have heard from other businessman that in radio broadcasting so called “kickback” is very common with advertisements. The advertiser will pay e.g. 300 000 USD to the radio for the advertisement, but he expects and receives back 150 000 USD in cash. That is also one of the reasons why you can get 50% discount on your advertising when you require no such kickback.

There are many people who exchange their values for enough money, sex or revenge. The employee who thinks that he was lied to by his boss or even conned out of his money will not act in the best interests of the company. If you are just one of many cogs in a big company machine, and you know that company will not be loyal to you if something happens to you, why should you be loyal to the company?

If you get a better offer, you change your job the same way as the company will replace you with someone who can do what you do better or cheaper. Lifetime employment is not even a phrase anymore, let alone a career option. If you don’t take care of yourself, nobody will.

As an employer do not expect gratitude from the employees for grooming their skills over the years. Don’t be a fool. People will work for you as long as it is profitable for them, but they will forget what you did for them the moment they leave you. It is better to be prepared for this moment.

It is always better to expect when dealing with money that the other party wants to use you and squeeze you of as much money as they can. And you should do the same if you want to become rich
quickly – use other people’s resources as much as they allow you to do. Nobody got richer because they were good persons.
